Mahjong Epic lets you play the iconic board game right on your phone. The mobile app offers more than 1800 boards to play through. With the constant updates that add more levels, Mahjong Epic will keep you busy for hours on end.
When you first open the game, you are greeted with a simple tutorial sequence. It explains that you must click two identical tiles in a row in order to remove them from the board. The catch is that you can only click on a tile if it isn't being covered by anything else. The challenge comes from removing the tiles carefully to always have plenty of moves available.

Once the first level is complete, you are given anywhere from one to three stars depending on how well you did. The first star is awarded just for clearing the level. The second star is obtained by beating the level with no hints. Finally, the third star is acquired by beating the level within a certain time limit.
You also get additional stars by completing various goals throughout the game. These goals include things such as clearing enough boards or winning matches. As you gain more stars, you unlock different tilesets you can use. The switch up the cosmetic look of each tile you play with. This is a solid touch that helps the game feel fresh as you play through hundreds of boards.
There are also several downloadable level packs you can buy. Currently, there are three packs available to purchase. Each of them is three dollars and includes 200 new boards. Buying a single pack removes all of the ads that normally appear around the borders of the screen. You can also get every pack for free if you have a Google Play Pass subscription. Membership also removes every ad the game would otherwise display.
If you get stuck during a level, the game has a built-in hint system. By clicking the hint button, the game highlights the next pair of tiles that are most beneficial to hit. You can use the hint system an unlimited number of times. The only drawback is you won't get the star at the end of the level. You can also shuffle the board if you want to get a fresh perspective on a level. Shuffling the board also prevents you from obtaining the bonus star.
The neat thing is that you can jump into any level at any time. For example, you can skip ahead to level 777 just because you feel like it. Each level has a unique shape and pattern. This allows you to pick designs that interest you most. The game's visuals are rather striking for a mobile app. The exotic tilesets look great against the green background. The music also gets you in the puzzling mood quite nicely.
